The 1930s building overlaps with a small block situated immediately south to the ancient Roman core of the city. From the urban standpoint it is thus an independent unit.
The project aims at renovating the spaces and the distribution by adding a new conference hall in the basement. In this way the current conference room at the ground floor could be devoted to enhance the social and intellectual life of an international community of circa 200 teachers and scholars who mostly spend short terms in the institution.
